CLOSTRIDIUM DIFFICILE
Clinical Information
C. difficile is a gram-positive, spore-forming anaerobic bacillus linked from diarrhea to the more severe life-threatening pseudomembranous colitis. Mature colonic bacterial colonization in a healthy adult is generally resistant to C. difficile colonization. The most common risk factor is exposure to antibiotics. The primary virulence factor from C. difficile is the cytotoxin B.
Test Use
CDIFF SCREEN is a qualitative in vitro diagnostic immunoassay test for the rapid detection of Glutamate Dehydrogenase (GDH) and toxins A and B from unformed stool specimens collected from patients suspected of having Clostridium difficile infection.
Interpretation
Positive result indicates the detection of both GDH and toxin.
Negative result indicates no detection of both GDH and toxin.
